Spurs were never in trouble against the League Two side and breezed into the fourth-round in style.
Tranmere couldn’t live with Pochettino’s Premier League-title chasing side, which included the likes of Dele Alli, Heung Son-min and Fernando Llorente.
Tottenham didn’t miss star striker Harry Kane, who started on the bench.
His replacement up front, Llorente, bagged a hat-trick but was replaced on 77 minutes by the World Cup Golden Boot winner with the score at 6-0.
And Spurs fans were not happy with Pochettino’s decision to bring on the star striker.
“Pochettino doesn’t seem to have much of a clue about looking after his players. 6-0 up against Tranmere and brings our main striker on. Left him on way too long in some games when we’ve been smashing teams too #THFC #spurs #facup” wrote one supporter on Twitter.
Another posted: “Why the f**k would you bring Kane on at 6-0 up away to Tranmere?”
A third tweeted: “6-0 up v Tranmere and bringing on Harry Kane #Absolutelybonkers”
“Why is Kane actually coming on? Is it to show him to the Tranmere fans? Totally unnecessary” added a fourth.
Pochettino was asked about the substitution after the game. He said: “It is important too for the fans here and the opponents to enjoy Harry Kane, he’s an icon in England and not everyone can have the opportunity to see him. It was very nice for everyone.”
The Spurs boss added: “(It was) a very professional performance I am happy for our fans, I am very pleased.”
Kane didn’t wait around to get stuck in to the action, netting Tottenham’s seventh five minutes after coming on.
Serge Aurier got the scoring underway in the 40th minute and added a second 10 minutes into the second-half.
Llorente’s hat-trick and a Son strike completed the 7-0 rout for the visitors – their biggest EVER away victory.
Stand-in captain Dele Alli said of the routine win: “It took us a while, we knew it wouldn’t be easy and it was about attitude and mentality. A wonder strike is what it takes sometimes at a place like this.
“They were defending well and it took a bit of quality to break them down. In the second half we showed our quality.
“We know the quality we have in attack. They would have wanted a replay and for us we wanted to leave with a comfortable win. A top performance.”
Two-goal scorer Aurier said: “I’m happy for my two goals and happy for the team that we won today. We were a good team and want to keep going for the next round.
“It was a big moment for me and the team, and today we won a good game. Now we must stay focused for the next game.”
